Kathleen Rowell is the Chief Executive Officer and Founder of American Moving & Installation, a 100% woman owned, union moving company serving the Greater Boston Area. The company is a certified WBE with the Supplier Diversity Office. Kathleen leads a diverse workforce that serves clients in a wide range of industries, from hospitality to workforce sharing, to high tech companies.
Currently celebrating its 10-year anniversary, she has built American methodically since its founding in 2009. In an industry where reputation is everything, Kathleen initially focused American on delivering high quality services to companies of modest size. As American’s resources grew and its capabilities were validated, Kathleen was able to attract increasingly larger companies as clients.
A key milestone for American was managing the New Balance move into a 250,000 square foot building at Boston Landing in Brighton in 2015. The services American provided received praise from the highest level of New Balance and demonstrated that American could successfully manage moves of substantial scale and scope.
Today, American serves companies of all sizes, from small businesses to Fortune 500 corporations. In addition, the company has been awarded Statewide Contact FAC 96.
Notable among its many recent achievements has been the year long effort to support the opening of the Encore Boston Harbor where American moved furniture into 671 hotel rooms, installed countless gaming tables and brought in infrastructure to support back of house operations.
Early in her career, Kathleen held various roles in the healthcare industry, ranging from clinical care to field sales. Subsequently, she launched an office cleaning company, where she obtained valuable insights into the commercial moving industry. Driven by an entrepreneurial mindset, strong organizational skills and seeing firsthand the booming area economy, Kathleen established the vision for American to offer a client driven experience with meticulous attention paid to detail.
In an industry dominated by multi-generation competitors, Kathleen introduced innovative approaches to commercial moving operations. Initiatives she championed included; hand selecting employees, developing comprehensive training programs, introducing leading edge business processes and establishing a customer driven culture.
Throughout her tenure, Kathleen has committed American to addressing major social challenges as part of its core business mission. The company’s charitable initiatives are wide ranging with in-kind donations and active participation with causes such as Juvenile Diabetes, Muscular Dystrophy and Ovarian Cancer.
Kathleen serves on the Board of Directors of First Literacy Boston which creates life-changing educational opportunities for adults throughout Massachusetts. In addition, she encourages young people to explore vocational careers through participation in mentoring programs.
